Coronavirus - COVID-19

As a follow up to my recent emails and COVID-19, I bring you updates with respect to the role of the employer, videos relating to hand washing techniques, how to tackle 'presenteeism', links to government guidelines for employers and links to additional advice from the various UK health and safety professional bodies who have drawn up guidance.
There are references to how to deal with staff who return from travel overseas, or those who show symptoms and are required to self isolate.

There are various links below.  I would urge you to reflect upon the content and to develop your business continuity plans.

Soap and water remain the best way to inactivate the virus.  The soap affects the structure of the virus and helps to inactivate it.             This is the most effective control measure we can introduce.   Once more:  Paper towels, or paper towel roll - as opposed to textile towels - are essential in preventing the spread.

For an alcohol-based hand rub to be effective - this must be 70% alcohol- based or higher.

Tight fitting FFP3 grade respirators (which have been properly face-fit tested) will offer protection against airborne viruses and bacteria - but the majority of transmission has been via hand or contact with contaminate surfaces.    N.B. If someone is coughing or sneezing, then the virus CAN be transmitted in this manner.  Sudden onset coughing and a spiked temperature are the primary symptoms.
